Gaseous diffusion separator
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004764
A device that separates gases based on their molecular weights by exploiting differences in their rates of diffusion through a porous barrier. Lighter gas molecules diffuse faster than heavier ones, leading to a slight enrichment of the lighter isotope on the other side of the barrier. This method was historically used for enriching uranium isotopes, specifically uranium-235 from uranium-238.
