Gas-filled phototube
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004765
A phototube containing a small amount of inert gas, such as argon, which amplifies the photocurrent through ionization. When photoelectrons are emitted from the cathode and accelerated towards the anode, they collide with gas molecules, creating additional ions and electrons. This results in a higher output current compared to a vacuum phototube for the same light intensity.
