Photocurrent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008835
An electric current generated in a material when it absorbs light. This current arises from the movement of photogenerated charge carriers, such as electrons and holes, under an applied electric field or due to internal potential gradients. It is a fundamental phenomenon in photodiodes, solar cells, and photodetectors.
