Lag phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006423
An initial period in the growth curve of a microbial population where there is little or no increase in cell number. During this phase, microorganisms adapt to their new environment, synthesize necessary enzymes, and repair any cellular damage. The duration of the lag phase depends on factors such as the inoculum size and the physiological state of the cells.
