Lamella
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013230
A thin, plate-like crystalline structure that is a fundamental building block of semi-crystalline polymers. These crystallites consist of polymer chains folded back and forth upon themselves, with the chain axes oriented perpendicular to the lamellar surface. The thickness of a lamella is typically on the order of 10 to 20 nanometers and is determined by the crystallization temperature and subsequent thermal history of the polymer.
