Stem
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011354
A relatively short, ordered portion of a polymer chain that traverses a crystalline lamella from one fold surface to the other. Multiple parallel stems, composed of adjacent chain segments, pack together to form the crystalline region of a semicrystalline polymer. The length of a stem is determined by the thickness of the lamella, which is typically on the order of 10 to 20 nanometers.
