Latex allergen

A protein in natural rubber latex from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis that triggers IgE-mediated allergy in sensitized people. The WHO and IUIS nomenclature lists fifteen, Hev b 1 to Hev b 15, and the dominant ones include Hev b 6.01 and Hev b 5 in health care workers, and Hev b 3 and Hev b 1 in children with spina bifida. Reactions range from contact urticaria to anaphylaxis.
