Latex
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006479
A colloidal dispersion of a polymer in a liquid, which is usually aqueous. The polymer particles are spherical with diameters in the sub-micrometer range, forming a stable suspension. Natural latex is an emulsion produced by certain plants, such as the rubber tree, while synthetic latices are created through emulsion polymerization for use in paints, adhesives, and coatings.
