Artificial latex
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000812
A colloidal dispersion of a pre-existing polymer in a continuous liquid phase, usually water. The polymer is first synthesized by another method, such as solution or bulk polymerization, and is then dispersed into the aqueous medium with the aid of surfactants and mechanical energy. This contrasts with a synthetic latex, where the polymer particles are formed directly within the aqueous phase via emulsion polymerization.
