Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006510

A semiconductor device, also known as a light-emitting diode, that produces light when an electric current passes through it. Electrons within the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, a process that releases energy as photons. The specific wavelength, and therefore the color, of the emitted light is determined by the band gap energy of the semiconductor materials used in the diode's construction.
