Semiconductor-metal transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010725

A phase transition in which a material changes from a semiconducting state, characterized by a finite band gap, to a metallic state, where the band gap closes or overlaps. This transition can be induced by changes in temperature, pressure, or doping. Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a well-known example that undergoes such a transition near room temperature.
