Metal-insulator transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007253
A phase transition in which a material changes its electrical conductivity from that of a metal to that of an insulator, or vice versa. This transition can be driven by changes in temperature, pressure, or doping concentration. Vanadium dioxide, for example, undergoes a metal-insulator transition near 67 degrees Celsius.
