Semi-continuous activated sludge test

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010726

A fill-and-draw laboratory test for the inherent biodegradability of an organic chemical, in which activated sludge is aerated daily with the test substance and synthetic sewage, allowed to settle, and the supernatant is drawn off and replaced with fresh medium while the sludge is kept. Removal of the substance is followed by measuring dissolved organic carbon in the effluent against a control. The procedure is described in OECD guideline 302A.
