Lymphokine

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006843

A subset of cytokines produced and released by lymphocytes, such as T cells and B cells, when they are activated by an antigen. These soluble protein mediators act as intercellular signals that regulate immune responses, including inflammation, cell-mediated immunity, and antibody production. The term is now largely superseded by the broader term cytokine, which includes signaling molecules produced by non-lymphoid cells as well.
