Macromolecular coil
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006872
The random, convoluted conformation adopted by a flexible polymer chain in solution or in the amorphous state. This shape arises from the rotational freedom around the backbone bonds and interactions with the solvent or other polymer segments. The size of the coil is often characterized by its radius of gyration.
