Mass mean diameter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006983
A particle-size average defined through mass: the diameter of the sphere that would weigh the same as the average particle in a sample. Aerosol and powder size distributions are skewed, so this mean generally differs from the mass median diameter, which divides a sample into two halves of equal total mass.
