Neglected disease
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007809
A disease that predominantly affects impoverished populations in developing regions and for which there are insufficient or no effective therapeutic options. These conditions are 'neglected' because they offer little financial incentive for pharmaceutical companies to invest in research and development of new drugs or vaccines. The World Health Organization maintains a list of neglected tropical diseases, which includes conditions like dengue, rabies, and leprosy.
