A medical condition for which there is currently no satisfactory diagnostic, preventive, or therapeutic option available, or where existing options are inadequate. This can include diseases with no effective treatments, treatments with severe side effects, or conditions affecting small patient populations. Addressing unmet medical needs is a primary driver for pharmaceutical research and development.
