Neuropathy target esterase

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007889

An enzyme found in the nervous system that is a primary target for certain organophosphate compounds, leading to delayed neurotoxicity. Inhibition of this enzyme by specific organophosphates initiates a cascade of events that can result in a characteristic delayed polyneuropathy. The activity of this enzyme is often measured in toxicology studies to assess potential neurotoxic effects.
