Neurotoxic esterase assay

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007896

A biochemical test used to measure the activity of neuropathy target esterase (NTE) in nervous tissue, typically from hens. This assay is employed to assess the potential neurotoxicity of organophosphate compounds, which can inhibit NTE and lead to delayed polyneuropathy. A reduction in NTE activity below a certain threshold indicates a risk of neurotoxic effects.
