Neurotropic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007903
Relating to a substance, organism, or agent that exhibits an affinity for, or preferentially acts on, nervous tissue. This property can describe viruses that infect nerve cells, toxins that target neural pathways, or therapeutic drugs designed to affect the nervous system. For example, the rabies virus is neurotropic because it travels along nerves to the central nervous system, while certain chemotherapeutic agents are avoided due to their neurotropic toxicity.
