Nodal plane
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007981
A plane within an atomic or molecular orbital where the probability of finding an electron is zero, meaning the wavefunction changes sign across this plane. The presence and number of nodal planes are characteristic features of different types of orbitals, influencing their energy and shape. For example, a p-orbital has one nodal plane passing through the nucleus, while a d-orbital has two.
