Nuclear Overhauser effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008109
A change in the intensity of a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal of one nucleus when the NMR signal of a nearby nucleus is saturated by radiofrequency irradiation. This effect arises from through-space dipole-dipole interactions between nuclei and is highly dependent on the distance between them. It is a powerful tool for determining internuclear distances and molecular conformation.
