Optoacoustic spectroscopy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008291

A spectroscopic technique that detects the acoustic waves generated when a sample absorbs modulated or pulsed electromagnetic radiation. The absorbed energy is converted into heat, causing thermal expansion and contraction that produces sound waves. This method is particularly sensitive for detecting trace amounts of gases or for studying opaque samples.
