Photoacoustic spectroscopy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008793

A spectroscopic technique that measures the acoustic waves generated when a sample absorbs modulated or pulsed electromagnetic radiation. The absorbed energy is converted into heat, causing thermal expansion and pressure waves that are detected by a microphone or piezoelectric sensor. This method is particularly effective for opaque or scattering samples, providing information similar to absorption spectroscopy.
