Ortho esters
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008336
Organic compounds formally derived from an ester by replacing the carbonyl oxygen with two alkoxy groups, resulting in a carbon atom bonded to three oxygen atoms and one other group. These compounds are typically stable and are used as protecting groups or synthetic intermediates. Triethyl orthoformate, HC(OEt)3, is a common example.
