Osteoblast
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008357
A specialized cell responsible for the synthesis and mineralization of bone during both initial bone formation and later remodeling. These cells originate from mesenchymal stem cells and produce a protein mixture known as osteoid, which is primarily composed of type I collagen. The osteoid subsequently mineralizes with calcium phosphate to become hard bone matrix.
