Intramembrous ossification

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006012

A direct process of bone formation where mesenchymal stem cells differentiate directly into osteoblasts, which then secrete bone matrix without an intermediate cartilage model. This mechanism is responsible for the formation of flat bones of the skull, the mandible, and the clavicles. It involves the aggregation of mesenchymal cells into ossification centers.
