Penetration

The process by which a substance passes through a barrier, such as a biological membrane or a protective layer. In toxicology, it describes the entry of a chemical into an organism through a portal of entry like the skin, respiratory tract, or gastrointestinal tract. The extent of penetration influences the systemic exposure and potential toxicity of a substance.
