Describing the passage of a substance into or through the skin. This route of exposure or administration allows chemicals to enter the systemic circulation without passing through the gastrointestinal tract. The rate of absorption is influenced by the substance's lipophilicity, molecular weight, and the integrity of the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis.
