Persistent organic pollutant

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008685

An organic chemical substance that resists environmental degradation through chemical, biological, and photolytic processes. These compounds are characterized by their long environmental half-lives, bioaccumulation in fatty tissues, and potential for long-range atmospheric and oceanic transport. The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants regulates a list of these chemicals.
