Global fractionation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004908
The differential distribution of persistent organic pollutants across the globe due to their physicochemical properties and atmospheric transport. Compounds with higher volatility tend to travel further from their source and accumulate in colder regions. This process results in distinct geographical patterns of pollutant concentrations, with lighter congeners often found at higher latitudes.
