Primary pollutant

A harmful substance that is emitted directly into the atmosphere from a source, without undergoing any chemical reactions in the air. Examples include carbon monoxide from vehicle exhaust and sulfur dioxide from industrial processes. These pollutants can have immediate adverse effects on human health and the environment.
