Persistent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008683
Describing a chemical species, such as a radical or an intermediate, that has an unusually long lifetime under specific reaction conditions. This extended existence allows for its detection and characterization, even if it is thermodynamically unstable. The persistence of a species is influenced by kinetic factors that hinder its decomposition or reaction with other molecules.
