Planktotrophic larva

A larval stage of an aquatic organism that feeds on plankton in the water column. These larvae are typically small, numerous, and spend a prolonged period in the plankton, dispersing widely before settling and metamorphosing into their adult form. This developmental strategy is common in many marine invertebrates.
