Plantibody
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009003
An antibody or antibody fragment that is produced by a genetically modified plant. The gene encoding the desired antibody is introduced into the plant's genome, which then synthesizes and accumulates the protein in its tissues, such as leaves or seeds. This production method offers a potentially low-cost and scalable alternative to conventional systems that use mammalian cell cultures for generating therapeutic or diagnostic antibodies.
