Leptocephaly
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006517
A cranial malformation in which the skull is abnormally tall and narrow. The term describes head shape rather than brain size, and it differs from microcephaly, in which the head is small because the brain has grown poorly. The similar-looking word leptocephalus instead names the transparent, ribbon-shaped larva of eels.
