Pneumonitis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009055
Inflammation of the lung tissue, especially the alveoli and the interstitium around them. The word names the general condition, and pneumonia is the infectious form with consolidation, so in practice pneumonitis is used chiefly for inflammation without infection, caused by inhaled organic dusts, chemicals, chest radiotherapy or certain drugs. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis from repeated exposure to mouldy hay, known as farmer's lung, is a classic example.
