Pneumotaxic center

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009056

A neural network located in the upper part of the pons within the brainstem that regulates respiratory rhythm. It functions primarily by limiting the duration of inspiration, thereby controlling the tidal volume and respiratory rate. This center fine-tunes the transition between inhalation and exhalation, working antagonistically with the apneustic center to produce smooth, regular breathing patterns.
