Polyphenylenethynylenes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009224

A class of conjugated polymers characterized by alternating phenylene (aromatic benzene) and ethynylene (-C≡C-) units in their main chain. The extended pi-electron delocalization along the backbone gives these polymers semiconducting or conducting properties. They are investigated for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), solar cells, and other optoelectronic devices due to their tunable electronic structure.
