Potential energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013428
The energy stored within a physical system due to the relative positions of its components or its configuration in a force field. In chemistry, this often relates to the energy associated with the arrangement of atoms within a molecule or the interactions between molecules. Changes in potential energy drive chemical reactions and phase transitions.
