Absolute configuration

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000049

The precise spatial arrangement of atoms or groups around a chiral center in a molecule. This arrangement is determined relative to a reference standard, allowing for the unambiguous assignment of stereochemistry. The Cahn-Ingold-Prelog (CIP) priority rules are commonly used to assign R/S descriptors for absolute configuration.
