C. I. P. system
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001557
A set of rules, named after Cahn, Ingold, and Prelog, used to assign absolute configurations (R or S) to chiral centers in molecules and to specify the E/Z configuration of double bonds. This system establishes a priority order for substituents around a stereocenter based on atomic number. The C.I.P. system is universally adopted in stereochemistry for unambiguous nomenclature.
