Powder grades

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009332

Categories of pharmaceutical powder defined by fineness alone, as measured by passage through standard sieves, with no role for flow behaviour or other properties. Pharmacopoeial descriptions run from coarse through moderately coarse, moderately fine and fine to very fine, and a number in brackets, such as fine (180), gives the aperture in micrometres of the sieve concerned. In the European Pharmacopoeia the very fine grade is labelled 125.
