Propagule rain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009546
The continual immigration of individuals, such as seeds, spores, or larvae, from a source population into a habitat patch. This process can prevent the local extinction of a small population by supplementing its numbers, an effect known as the rescue effect. The rate of propagule rain is a key factor in metapopulation dynamics and conservation biology.
