Metapopulation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007265
A collection of spatially separated populations of a single species that are connected by occasional dispersal of individuals. These individual populations may experience local extinctions and recolonizations, but the overall metapopulation persists through the balance of these processes. The dynamics of a metapopulation are influenced by factors such as habitat patch size, isolation, and connectivity.
