Species-deletion stability
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011092
The tendency of a modelled ecological community to settle at a locally stable equilibrium among its surviving species after one species is removed or goes extinct. In theoretical community models such as Lotka-Volterra systems, it is tested by deleting a species and checking whether the remaining populations stay stable or trigger further extinctions. It differs from ordinary local stability, which concerns small shifts in population sizes while every species is still present.
