Species-specific sensitivity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011093
The inherent susceptibility of a particular species to a toxic substance or environmental stressor, which is distinct from that of other species. This sensitivity is determined by the species' unique genetic makeup, physiology, metabolism, and life history traits. For instance, the median lethal concentration (LC50) of a pesticide for an aquatic invertebrate will differ from the LC50 for a fish species.
