Specific

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011094

An adjective placed before the name of an extensive quantity to show that it has been divided by mass, as in specific volume and specific heat capacity. The result is an intensive property that does not depend on the size of the sample. Division by amount of substance gives the molar quantity instead, and division by volume gives a density.
