Selective

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010673

Describing an analytical method or reagent that responds preferentially to a particular analyte or group of analytes in the presence of other components in a sample. A selective method minimizes interference from co-existing substances, leading to more accurate and reliable measurements. True specificity, where a method responds to only one analyte, is rarely achieved in practice.
